This recital program marks Joe Donahue’s return to full solo recital performance after a 25-year absence. It’s an eclectic collection exploring love, loss, gratitude and resilience, moving between English art song, contemporary songwriting and musical theatre. Composers and songwriters include Vaughan Williams, Butterworth, Britten, Billy Joel, Jason Isbell, Adam Guettel and Stephen Sondheim.
Joe says: “One of the things that interests me most about this project is what happens when we bring these different musical traditions into conversation with one another, approaching each with the same attention to text, storytelling and emotional truth.”
Joe will be joined by pianist Claire Harris, and they’d love to share the evening with students and colleagues who are interested in vocal performance, interpretation and the possibilities of recital programming.
